WTA Circuit in past
The Virginia Slims Series was the first women's tournament series that started in 1971. Two years later, in 1973, Billie Jean King founded the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), uniting all of women’s professional tennis in one tour. In different years, Virginia Slims, Avon, Colgate, and Toyota were the sponsors of the WTA tour series from 1971 to 1988. In 1989 tournaments were transformed into the WTA Tier categories. We publish here statistics for all women's tournaments of the Open Era. The tournament list is incomplete, and we are doing our best to make it as complete as possible.
