The first tournament was held in 2001, 23 years ago. After moving the men's event to Acapulco, the organizers decide to raise his prestige and expand the tournament with women's competitions. The efforts of the organizers and sponsors were justified, and the tournament became a popular event in the ATP and WTA calendars. In 2021, the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
