The first tournament was held in 1962, 63 years ago. Before the Australian Open changed its court surface, the event was played on Rebound Ace. When the Australian Open changed to Plexicushion in 2008, all Australian Open Series tournaments were required to change their court surfaces to Plexicushion. To keep the tournament, organizers made significant improvements to the facility, including resurfacing the courts to Plexicushion and improving the seating facilities. In 2021, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
