Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships, Tokyo
The first tournament was held in 1972, 52 years ago. In 1973, the event joined to Grand Prix tennis tour, and Australian tennis legend Ken ROSEWALL became the first champion. Until 2008 it was a joint tournament for both men and women, but since 2008 Ariake Coliseum has hosted another women's event. The stadium is one of the few professional tennis venues with a retractable roof.
Japan tennis player Kei NISHIKORI won the tournament twice, in 2012 and 2014.
In 2020-2021, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
