The first tournament was held in 2001, 24 years ago, and was named in honor of Princesse Lalla Meryem, the sister of Mohammed VI, King of Morocco. The event became an exciting occasion for tourists and fans, promoting tennis in North Africa. In 2020-2021, the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
