Internazionali BNL d'Italia, Rome

Rome
The tournament was found in 1930, 91 years ago, and the first years held in Milan before moving to Rome. The Italian Open has also been played in Turin, Perugia and Taranto, but it has always returned to Rome. In 1982, IMG as new owner of the tournament, started reconstruction of the old stadium Foro Italico and women's part of the championship returned to Rome from Perugia in 1987. To ensure attendance of the women's championship at first, organizers combined season tickets for men's and women's events, giving buyers the opportunity to purchase both for 120% of the price of one. The last homegrown women’s champion was Raffaella REGGI in 1985.
