The tournament was founded in 2011, 13 years ago, and replaced the MPS Group Championships, Ponte Vedra Beach in the WTA calendar. In 2012, the ATP and WTA combined their events into a joint tournament in Washington. In 2020-2021, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
