BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells

Indian Wells
The tournament was founded in 1974, 51 years ago. In 1980, the final match was not held due to rain, tournament was canceled at the semifinal stage. In 1981, the former No. 1-ranked player in the U.S. Charlie PASARELL started his collaboration with the event. He had been the longtime Director of that tournament until retiring from that position in 2012. In 1982, Yannick NOAH of France ended Ivan LENDL'S winning streak at 44 matches in the final. In December 2009, current owner Larry Ellison, co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, purchased the tournament and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, one of the world's greatest tennis venues with the second largest tennis 16,100-seat stadium in the world. In 2020, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
