The tournament was founded in 2015, 10 years ago. The event replaced the Royal Guard Open, Vina del Mar held in Chile. Quito is located at 2800 meters above sea level, more than twice higher than the Alps tournaments. Players must adapt to the thinner air, which causes breathing difficulties and makes the ball fly faster.
