Erste Bank Open, Vienna

Vienna
The first tournament was held in 1974, 52 years ago. Since then, the tournament has been held in the famous Wiener Stadthalle multi-purpose venue. In 1992, in the final season of his career, 40-year-old Jimmy CONNORS forgot his shorts at his hotel on the eve of his first match against Fabrice SANTORO in Vienna. He played the first set in tennis shorts provided by Peter Feigl, later the tournament director, and lost it. For the second set, Connors' shorts were brought from the hotel, and he started playing much better. However, Connors still suffered a defeat in the third set due to a shoulder injury. Austria's most successful tennis player, Thomas MUSTER, has famously never won the tournament, despite finishing second three times. The duo of brothers Bob BRYAN and Mike BRYAN achieved their 1,000th ATP Tour victory in the quarterfinals of 2016.
