The tournament was founded in 1973, 52 years ago. In 1991, John MCENROE won the last edition of the Chicago tournament and his final ATP title by defeating his younger brother Patrick MCENROE. They were the first siblings to compete against each other in an ATP final since Emilio SANCHEZ and Javier SANCHEZ in 1987 in Madrid.
