The tournament was founded in 2021. After successfully hosting two new ATP tournaments - Bett1Hulks Championships and Bett1Hulks Indoors in 2020 in Cologne, which filled the lack of tournaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the WTA has confirmed a new tournament on clay in Cologne. In 2021, the event was canceled because of the worsening coronavirus situation. In 2022, the tournament was canceled due to organizational issues.
