Lyon hosted an indoor hard-court event from 1987-2009 but returned to the ATP World Tour calendar as a clay-court tournament instead Open de Nice Côte d'Azur event. It is one of five ATP World Tour tournaments held in France and took place the week before Roland Garros. In 2020, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
