Terra Wortmann Open, Halle
The tournament was founded in 1993, 33 years ago. The competition serves as one of the main stages of preparation for Wimbledon, which also takes place on grass courts and begins in late June. The Stadium has a unique feature in Europe: a retractable roof that converts it into a weather-independent venue within 90 seconds. In 2015, Ivo KARLOVIC hit 45 aces in his Halle quarter-final win against Tomas BERDYCH, setting a record for the most aces in an ATP Tour match.
Roger FEDERER became only the second male tennis player in the Open Era to win ten or more titles at the same tournament, joining Rafael NADAL, who achieved this feat at three different events (14 at Roland Garros, 12 at Barcelona 500, and 11 at Monte-Carlo Masters).
In 2020, the tournament was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic.
